Situated just a short 15 minute drive from Las Vegas is the beautiful and prestigious Lake Las Vegas. The stunning community is a totally man made lake with gorgeous home sites, golf courses, hotels and other boutique shops and restaurants. The actual lake consists of 320 acres and there are homes and commercial land surrounding the lake to the tune of over 3,500 acres. The actual lake was filled with over 3 billion gallons of water that came from Lake Mead as a part of the original purchase agreement.
Lake Las Vegas has a rather extravagant history behind the entire developmental phases. In fact, the Lake Las Vegas Joint Venture actually filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in July of 2008. It was originally acquired in 1967 under the name of Lake Adair. The actor, J. Carlton Adair is the original developer but found himself in bankruptcy shortly after the purchase. At that time, another developer came in and took over the entire project once Adair failed. This new owners name was Ronald Boeddeker and he is the one that worked with the US Government to take over the project and continue the process of development for what is today, Lake Las Vegas.
In 1995, Lake Las Vegas went through several different ownership transitions which included Henry Gluck, the former chairman and CEO for Caesars World. The property eventually ended up with two very wealthy billionaires from Texas. Sid and Lee Bass were fast to take over the project and invested over $5 billion borrowed dollars to do so. They too found themselves in trouble financially and ended up filing bankruptcy as well.
The community has gone through several changes of ownership as well as the commercial shopping centers, hotels and golf courses. Now that our economy has stabilized, the lake community continues to thrive and even adding more beautiful amenities than ever before. All of the hotels are now occupied and open for business and the amount of foreclosures and short sales in the residences has substantially decreased.
